Homework Policy

It is school policy that homework be given on week nights only. Weekend homework may be given occasionally but this would usually be in the form of project work, revision work, or possible “penalty” work.

Homework acts as a channel of communication between home and school. Children must have a homework notebook where they should write their homework each day. Parents are asked to sign the homework when it is completed each night. It is important that parents satisfy themselves that each task is completed to an acceptable standard and is not rushed or untidy.

If parents are concerned about some aspect of their child’s homework they are welcome to write a note in the notebook outlining the problem. If the problem is ongoing they may consider making an appointment with the teacher to discuss the matter.

The school encourages and supports participation in extracurricular activities and recognises the importance of playtime for children. Therefore homework should not be of a lengthy duration and should not dominate a child’s free time. The following are general time-guidelines for homework:

Infants classes: 20 minutes
First & Second classes: 20 minutes

Third & Fourth classes: 30 - 45 minutes
Fifth & Sixth classes: 45 - 60 minutes
