Tinahely Athletics Club

The club was started in 2000 as a millennium project to promote the physical well being of the children in Tinahely and the surrounding areas. We operate at the local GAA pitch - St. Kevin's Park - on Saturday mornings from 10 to 11am.

The club is open to children from all schools both primary and secondary and a nominal fee of €2 per child applies. However it's €3 if you have two children from the same family or €4 for 3 children in the family.

This money helps towards the purchase of new equipment which, thanks to the local GAA club, we can store in a lockable shed on the grounds. This year we purchased a set of ten training hurdles with the aid of the Sports Development Grant and we have recently completed and installed a Long Jump on the side of the GAA pitch and this is a wonderful addition to the club's facilities.

The athletes receive training from September to June in the disciplines of Sprint, middle Distance, Long Jump, Shot Putt, Ball Throw, Javelin and hurdling. Tug-O-War was introduced last year and proved to be a very enjoyable sport as well.

The Club competes at County, Provincal and National Level and we have achieved medals at all levels.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday's. Don't be shy - Give it a try - Athletics is fun and keeps you very fit.
